In the U.N. Study it says, "The 1993 General Assembly Declaration on
Violence Against Women refers to certain traditional practices and
enumerates physical, sexual and psychological violence... The Special
Rapporteur on Traditional Practices prejudical to women's health see
violence as a crucial mechanism to subordinate women to men." "The
Beijing Conference refers to traditional practices such as violence
related to dowries, female genital mutilation, female infanticide and
prenatal selection based on gender. These and other texts, instruments
