D.3. CRIMES OF HONOR

According to the U.N. Study, "Crimes of honor are committed with varying degrees of intensity in the Middle East, South America and Southern Asia, as in the past in the Mediterranean basin; a man has impunity to kill any woman suspected of dishonoring his family; she is seen as a symbol or piece of property rather than as a human being. The Special Rapporteur on extra-judicial, summary or arbitrary executions addresses this issue and mentions women driven to suicide or disfigured by acid. Religious extremism in Bangladesh has made women particularly vulnerable to discriminatory fatwas."

The organizations listed below address these and other issues on D.3. Crimes of Honor. Click on the title of an organization to view an abstract of their work and how to contact them.
