The Inter-African Committee (IAC) on Traditional Practices
Affecting the Health of Women and Children is a NGO working
to promote the health of women and children in Africa and amongst
migrant communities by fighting harmful traditional practices,
and promoting beneficial ones. The IAC pioneered the only African NGO and NGO
network to address the problems of these harmful traditional practices. The
IAC collaborates with relevant governmental organizations, UN offices, and
NGO's to promote its objectives. Target groups for IAC activities includes
grass root activists in rural areas, community leaders, health and social workers,
traditional birth attendants and healers, students and youth organizations,
and policy makers. The IAC is headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,
with an International Liaison Office in Geneva, Switzerland and National Committees
in 26 African countries, and group section in 9 non-African countries.
