PeaceWomen (WILPF)
PeaceWomen is a project of the Women's International League
for Peace
and Freedom (WILPF). It aims to enhance the visibility of
women's peace
efforts within the United Nations system and international
community.
The starting point of the Peacewomen Project was the historic
unanimous
adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace
and
Security in October, 2000, specifically addressing the impact
of war on
women, and women's contributions to conflict resolution and
sustainable
peace. PeaceWomen WILPF focuses on eighteen identified themes
such as
Conflict Prevention, Disarmament, HIV/AIDS, Economic Rights,
and
Landmines, including Human Rights and Violence Against Women
and
Trafficking. PeaceWomen shares a web portal with UNIFEM,
the United
Nations Development Fund for Women-http://www.unifem.org.
