Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)
The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)
is the
oldest women's peace organization in the world. It was founded
in April
1915, in The Hague, The Netherlands, by some 1300 women from
Europe and
North America from countries at war with each other. WILPF
is a category
B Non-Government Organization (NGO) in consultative status
with the
United Nations, with chapters covering all continents. WILPF
brings
together women of different political beliefs and philosophies
on issues
of; Peace, Disarmament, Economic Justice, Environment, Racial
Justice,
Human Rights, United Nations. The WILPF program on Freedom
and Human
Rights includes preventing violence against women and the
promotion of
full respect for the human rights of women as indispensable
for a
democratic society, through providing a gender analysis of
specific
country situations to the Human Rights Commission.
