PeaceWomen Across the Globe
PeaceWomen Across the Globe is a new project, born from the 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005 campaign. PeaceWomen Across the Globe is working to make women’s roles as peacebuilders more visible, recognized and better supported globally. We are connecting individual peacewomen and organizations at national, regional and international levels. Our goal is to connect and strengthen women's peace efforts around the globe so that a strong, cross-sectoral and global women's peace movement will emerge. An important part of what we do is challenge narrow definitions of peace. Peace is not simply the absence of war. Peace is based on justice and the attainment of human security. Redefining peace to understand it in its fullest sense also leads to a new understanding of what peacebuilding means.
With the new focus Expertise for Peacebuilding we want to contribute to promoting women’s participation on all levels of peace building. This project accentuates the expertise of peacewomen and contributes to a deeper sensitisation for a comprehensive understanding of human security and the scopes of peace decisions. Our goal is that the peacewomen, acting as experts, consultants or mediators, take part in peace processes, peace negotiations and in decision making bodies. With their expertise, women contribute to a differenciated analysis and identify effective solutions and skills.
