The Oslo Coalition
on Freedom of Religion or Belief
The Oslo Coalition on Freedom of Religion or Belief was established
by the participants of the 1998 Oslo Conference on Freedom
of Religion or Belief, held to celebrate the 50 year anniversary
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The activities
of the Oslo Coalition are based on the Oslo Declaration on
Freedom of Religion or Belief, adopted by the more than 150
participants at the conference. The Oslo Declaration accepted
the challenge to build an international coalition and a strategic
plan of action to achieve substantial progress and give practical
support to the implementation of Article 18 of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights, Article 18 of the International
Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, and the 1981 U.N. Declaration
on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination
Based on Religion or Belief. The Oslo Coalition works on a
project basis with cooperating partners in a number of countries.
