The Interreligious Center on
Public Life (ICPL)
The Interreligious Center on Public Life (ICPL) is a joint
venture of Hebrew College and Andover Newton Theological School.
The Center, through its deliberations, colloquia, workshops,
publications and research, conveys shared values and policy
positions to those entrusted with the resolution of public
policy concerns. The ICPL dedicates its efforts to the fulfillment
of the prophetic vision of justice, mercy and humility for
the sake of the betterment of the human condition. ICPL, established
in 1999, is a forum for the dissemination of principles and
ideas of the Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity
and Islam as they relate to the great domestic and international
issues of the day. Among the topics are Islam, Bioethics, Holocaust,
Women in Traditional Religions, Stem Cell Research, etc. ICPL
has a summer International Peacemaking School dealing directly
with issues of religious freedom in national disputes. In 2005
it was held in Bosnia and Jerusalem. The Center is the only
entity of its kind to be created by a distinguished Protestant
seminary and a leading academic institution of advanced Jewish
study. Its governing board is drawn from a cross section of
lay leaders, academicians and clergy from Judaism, Christianity
and Islam. ICPL dedicates its efforts to the enrichment of
public life and discourse and the furtherance of interreligious
understanding.
