International Association for Religious
Freedom (IARF)
The International Association for Religious Freedom, founded
in 1901, is
one of the oldest interfaith associations in the world. IARF
is a
registered charity based in the United Kingdom with the aim
of working
for freedom of religion or belief at a global level. They have
over 90
affiliated member groups in approximately 25 countries from
a wide range
of faith traditions. IARF is actively involved with the CONGO
Committees
on Freedom of Religion or Belief in Geneva and New York. At
the top of
the IARF agenda is finding ways religiously-based and secular
NGO's can
cooperate in promoting the work of the United Nations Special
Rapporteur
on Freedom of Religion or Belief. They contributed a report,
Religious
Education in Schools: Ideas and Experiences From Around the
World, for
the U.N. Madrid Consultation Conference in 2001, and are participating
with the Oslo Coalition on Freedom of Religion or Belief for
a follow-up
conference in 2004. IARF sponsors Interfaith Dialogues and
Youth
Programs around the world and are producing a film on Human
Rights
Education and Religious Freedom with a grant from the Dutch
Government.
