Amnesty International (AI)

Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. AI's vision is of a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. AI undertakes research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of human rights. At the latest count there were more than 1.5 million members, supporters and subscribers in over 150 countries of the world. On International Women's Day, 8 March 2004 , Amnesty International will launch a global campaign to eradicate violence against women. Today Amnesty International reiterates its calls upon all governments to respect women's rights themselves, protect women's rights from being violated by private citizens, particularly domestic abuse, and ensure that women can enjoy their human rights. For more information on the global campaign to eradicate violence against women contact the international secretariat below.
