The process to formulate the post-2015
development agenda was unleashed upon the world in early 2013. In order to
create an ambitious new global development agenda— which will influence
national development strategies, global discourse, and purportedly, to be so
transformational as to ‘leave no one behind’—governments, NGOs, civil society
stakeholders, UN agencies and inter- governmental bodies have been working
relentlessly for the past two years in order to accomplish this aim.
Concurrent processes around the post-2015 development agenda abound, such as the Financing for Development negotiations, the indicators and monitoring process by the Inter-Agency Expert Group on SDGs (IAEG- SDGs), and the creation of an accountability mechanism at various levels, including the High-level Political Forum (HLPF). The end goal is, of course, to create a seamless package for development for the next 15 years. However, since these different discussions have been happening in parallel sessions, there are serious questions on the ‘seamlessness’ of this development package.
