Goma, August 10, 2015 - GNWP is excited to
announce its upcoming activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo
(DRC). GNWP and its member, Synergie des Femmes Pour Le
Victimes des Violences Sexuelles (SFVS), will replicate the Girl
Ambassadors for Peace program in Goma, DRC beginning with leadership
and peacebuilding workshops with girls and young women on August 12
and 13, 2015. Under this program, girls and young women are trained
to become leaders and use literacy and theater training to start
community-level discussions on women’s participation in
peacebuilding, ending sexual and gender-based violence,
combatting child, early and forced marriage among other key issues.
The Girl Ambassadors for Peace program is also implemented in South
Kivu, DRC and Eastern Equatoria, South Sudan.
The program in North Kivu also promotes
community-based conflict prevention and prevention of sexual and
gender-based violence strategies. Another positive outcome of the
program is an increase in literacy among young women and girls in
North Kivu . The Girl Ambassador for Peace program in DRC is
supported by Cordaid.
While in Eastern DRC, GNWP and its partner SFVS
will conduct a Community Social Dialogue, which is a participatory
initiative that directly engages former and active members of armed
groups in community‐led discussions on conflict resolution and peacebuilding. This
initiative addresses the entire spectrum of women, and peace and
security (WPS) issues, including sexual violence in conflict,
impunity, and women's participation in peace processes and decision-making.
GNWP is also proud to announce, the launch of the Guidelines
for the Integration of the United Nations Security Council
Resolutions 1325 and 1820 into Development Plans in the DRC, in
partnership with Cadre Permanent de Concertation de la Femme Congolaise
(CAFCO) and the Ministry of Gender, Family and Children and the
Ministry of Decentralization (le Ministère du Genre, de la Famille et
de l'Enfant et le Ministère de la Décentralisation). The launch will
take place on August 18, 2015 in Kinshasa, DRC. The production of the
