Current Pamphlet – To Be Updated:
Dear Friends & Partners in the Fight Against Modern Slavery,
The
Department of State is planning to update the “Know Your Rights” pamphlet (also known as the
Wilberforce Pamphlet) and requests
your invaluable input as we embark on this important endeavor. As you may
know, the purpose of the pamphlet is to provide information on the legal rights
and resources available to individuals applying for employment- or education-based
nonimmigrant visas to the United States. The pamphlet is a key resource
for these applicants and also reaffirms and strengthens the U.S. government’s
commitment to fight human trafficking in the United States and, since its
inception, has resulted in the identification of many trafficking victims and
cases throughout the country. We believe it has helped prevent many other
potential trafficking crimes.
Through your efforts on the front lines to combat trafficking
and your work to support survivors, you are uniquely positioned to provide
practical feedback to ensure this pamphlet remains a relevant, accurate, and effective anti-trafficking tool. I therefore urge organizations, as well as survivors of
human trafficking, survivor networks, and survivor-led organizations, to help strengthen the Wilberforce Pamphlet by responding to this call for
information. The relevant details, including the
deadline, can be viewed here.
Thank
you, as always, for your partnership in our joint fight against human
trafficking.
Kari Johnstone, Acting Director
Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons
U.S. Department of State
