Political Will & Public Will – Research – Women’s Advocacy
In women’s human rights advocacy, we often use the
phrase: “If we only had political will” as to move forward tighter laws on
violence against women, to free the abducted schoolgirls in Nigeria, to enforce
rules against child marriage, to see that births and marriages are legally
recorded, to ratify CEDAW in the US. There is continuing rhetoric on Political
Will and Public Will, but only recently do we have systematic analysis and
research on Political Will and Public Will. Below are links to two academic
reports, on Public Will and Political Will. The researchers define these
concepts and give examples.
Women’s programs have long tried methods to catalyze
Political and Public Will to impact social policy, and these reports can
be tools for our continued advocacy.
