YWCA/YMCA Week of Prayer and World Fellowship 2014
9/17/2014 - The
YWCA and YMCA’s main focus is on the holistic development of youth and women
since their creation. In the month of November, for over a century, the YWCA
and YMCA movements have collaborated to issue a joint call to pray as an
important reminder of the spiritual vision that drives their efforts to create
a better world for all people.
In
2014, the World YWCA/YMCA Week of Prayer and World Fellowship takes place from
November 9 - 15 under the theme “Bold and Transformative Leadership.”
The term
“transformative leadership” applies when “leaders and followers raise one
another to higher levels of motivation and morality.” The Bible is full of
stories of bold and transformative leaders - women, men, young people and
elders - who accepted the call of God to change the situation of their people.
Among those leaders Moses stands out to be one of the most extraordinary
leaders due the scope of his leadership. But what is not highlighted enough is
that Moses was not a self-made leader. From his birth to the end of his
life different people played different roles which formed his character as a
leader. This year our attention will be on women who built, through their own
example, his foundation of bold and transformational leadership.
The booklet to
accompany this week comprises of six Bible studies that tells the stories of
bold and transformative leaders who made an impact on Moses’ life, a suggested
order of worship, and a 12-month Bible reading plan. This booklet is a resource
for YWCAs, YMCAs, and individuals to reflect on how bold and transformative
leadership will shape our common future.
It is with great
pleasure that the World YWCA and the World Alliance of YMCA share with you the
Week of Prayer Booklet with the hope that YWCA and YMCA members, as well as
friends of our movement, will be inspired to be Bold and Transformative
Leaders. booklet is also available in French and Spanish and will be mailed to
each Member Association. The electronic versions in the three languages are
