Italy
– Economic Crisis Cutting Italian Births by 62,000 Each Year
October 1, 2014 - Italy has lost 62,000 births per year since the onset of
financial crisis in 2008, the socio-economic research company Censis said.
Births in Italy have fallen from 577,000 to 514,000 in the years from 2008 to
2013, concluded the study presented in Rome by Censis and the Ibsa Foundation,
called To Become a Parent Today.
Eighty-three percent of
survey respondents said economic crisis made choosing to have a child more
difficult.
Among adults below the age
of 34, who are most fertile but also most affected by Italy’s adverse economic conditions, more than 90% said the
economy weighed on their child-bearing choices.
