Sexual violence is one of the most horrific crimes committed during conflict. No one should have to endure the pain and humiliation of rape and sexual exploitation and violence, and it is particularly deplorable when a child is subjected to this brutality. The prevalence in conflict of sexual violence against children is shocking. Save the Children’s research and programming experience indicates that girls especially but also boys under the age of 18 often make up the majority of survivors of sexual violence in conflict and conflict-affected countries; sometimes more than 80% of those affected by sexual violence are children.4
