WOMEN & GENDER CONSTITUENCY

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

Dedicated programs and parterships continue to try to persevere amidst many and complex challenges to see movement forward on a NEW CLIMATE CHANGE AGREEMENT that has serious and definitive GENDER COMPONENTS, LANGUAGE, DIMENSIONS.

"From 4-15 June 2014, in Bonn, Germany, WEDO and its partners from the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA), working alongside members of the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC), attended the fortieth sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 40) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 40), as well as the June session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP)."

"To support this, the Women and Gender Constituency (WGC) delivered a total of 8 interventions and presentations, at the openings of each of the working groups as well as in the Dialogue on Article 6 and the Technical Expert Meeting (TEM) on land-use. You can find all of these resources on the WGC's NEW website www.womengenderclimate.org."

The lobbying and advocacy require finely tuned skills and analysis, clear understanding and strategies, awareness of the power structures and multiple constituencies, familiarity with protocol and procedure mechanisms, and awareness of the entry points and language to make a GENDER IMPACT. It takes time, energy, commitment to study and participate in climate change processes in depth

Whether at CSW with the Draft Agreed Conclusions, the Resolutions at the UN Human Rights Council and the General Assembly, Regional Commitments, the Post-2015 Development Agenda, and assuredly a Climate Change Agreement, we work so hard to have women's rights, issues, justice, included in principle, but SO IMPORTANT - IN LANGUAGE. The negotiations and manipulations that go into wordage of these highly significant and long term impacting documents, affect us all. Thanks to all our women's movement sisters for the efforts that can and do move our gender agenda forward!!
