Women Association,
Objective
The main aim of this project is to facilitate,
within the field of sport, the implementation of EU strategies related to
social inclusion and equal opportunities. As a consequence, one of our main
objectives is to encourage women to participate in sport and enable access to
sport “for all”.
The idea behind the project, is to employ

By means of grassroot physical activities
widespread on Madeira Island (trekking, mountaineering), which will be enriched
by an innovative methodology and integrated tools of personal empowerment (
e.g. nature coaching, creativity development, wildness therapy, natural
awareness), the event will bring relevant changes to participants’ life
opportunities, strengthen their capacity and effectiveness when facing
significant challenges such as unemployment, single parentship, discrimination
and unequal opportunities.
The event will have an awareness-raising impact
on the value of physical activity in relation to the personal, social and
professional development of the participants from 12 European countries.

Therefore the target group will consist of 120
women from 12 European countries. We want to focus on women of different ages
facing social and professional problems, particularly those endangered because
of social exclusion. Women are at risk of social exclusion for the following
reasons:
·
unemployment
· obstacles of coming back
to the labour market after childbirth
·
unemployed persons above 50 years old
· single parents with at
least one child under the age of 18
· low opportunities of
civil participation in decision-making proccesses
· low opportunities of
self-realisation caused by different factors, e.g problematic work-life balance
Moreover,
motivation to participate in the project may be the result of experiencing some
kind of gender oriented discrimination, e.g mobbing, glass ceiling and others.

Methodology
The project is based on new techniques for
facing social problems based on an innovative combination of voluntary sporting
activities within the natural surroundings of
Physical activity and contact with nature will
be provided by trekking in the mountains. The mountain environment offers a
perfect field for natural therapies such as mountain therapy, wilderness
therapy, nature awareness, body work, green and walking therapy.
Achievement of the objectives will be supported
through the use of coaching tools that help people face life challenges, e.g.
change that occurs after a loss, whether it’s
loss resulting from divorce or enemployment, identification of the next
stage of life, navigation of life changes or new responsibilities.
Natural coaching mainly focuses on experiential
learning in nature. Participants learn and change through engagement and
interaction with nature.
‘Reaching a top” and ‘climbing a mountain’ are
metaphorical expressions which refer to mountains as a symbol of determination,
the end point and a more or less easy to reach a goal, and they represent the
idea of ‘being able to do it’ and represent success, fulfilling a goal and
moving upwards. These are the presumptions of mountain therapy.
The participants will face the challenges of a
transnational group that will consist of participants from 12 partner countries
with various cultural backgrounds. Therefore the event will be an occasion for
intercultural exchange and improving intercultural communication.
Results and impact
The event will significantly improve the quality
of life of those taking part through a wide range of physical health benefits
including psychological well being and facilitate social networking among
European citizens and enhance motivation for life changes.
The participants will:
- challenge perceived limitations and unhelpful
thought patterns, and develop a greater awareness of strengths, through the use
of the natural environment and challenging nature-based activities.
-
strengthen motivation, self-esteem, confidence, independence and creativity
- Improve
communication skills and intercultural communicational competences
- take
responsibility for their own actions
- integrate
new learning experiences and positive resources so that they become available
in everyday life
Budget
All the sending organisation's costs will be
covered by the grant ( sending coordinator from each organisation,
administrative costs, preparation costs, staff – trainers, coach, teacher,
travel costs of the staff and participants, etc).
The project budget can cover 80% of eligible
project costs. Therefore around 20% must be covered by Sending Organizations
from their project income, internal resources and private sponsors. The
methodology of financing 20% will be delivered to the organizations that join
the partnership (staff salary sustainable balance).
