RWANDA - LEARNING FROM THE RISE OF
RWANDA'S WOMEN
20 Years After the Genocide
Nearly one million Rwandans lost their
lives during the 100 days of terror and atrocities that began in April
1994. A nation in mourning had to determine how to rebuild. Leading the
way? Rwandan women, who stepped into roles previously closed to them and healed
the country.
During this time of observances marking
the 20th anniversary of the genocide, The Institute for Inclusive Security is
highlighting the contributions of Rwanda’s women. It is evident that the rise
of Rwanda's women holds lessons for how to build sustainable peace. Women
are still leading change in Rwanda, as they are in Afghanistan, Syria, and
countries around the globe.
