ARTISTIC VISUAL RECORD OF WOMEN IN
PUBLIC PROTESTS - MARIA MARIA
Indignadas
(Outraged Women) consists
of a visual record of the participation of women in public protests since 2011.
The first stage focused on Spain, while the second stage, which began on June
2013, expands the project globally. Marķa Marķa Acha-Kutscher turns photographs
from press and witnesses into drawings that I print on tarps for exhibitions in
public spaces. The images can be used under Creative Commons (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0) license.
The aim of Indignadas series is to make visible, claim and place the
woman at the center of this social struggle. A memory register to remind future
generations that social changes throughout history were made by women and men
together. The drawings record a popular aesthetic, where the woman's body is not
offered as support for the eyes of men, but as support for the political
message. Transforming photographs into drawings, I set them in the supposed
"timelessness" of art. This is another way to connect with society,
building the legitimacy of high culture to spread the protest and preserve the
memory of the women.
