Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice - February 2014

OTP draft Policy Paper on Sexual and Gender Based Crimes

Last Friday, the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Criminal Court distributed a draft Policy Paper on Sexual and Gender Based Crimes. This was the first policy priority announced by Prosecutor Bensouda when she took office in 2012.

The development of the policy included: a series of consultations with OTP staff from each division and section including the specialist units and OTP field staff; additional analysis of the Statute and the challenges before the OTP in relation to analyzing, investigating and prosecuting gender-based crimes; and drafting the policy integrating gender issues within the technical areas, legal framework as well as the substantive and institutional work of the OTP.

The OTP is inviting comments and feedback on this policy. Please send your comments directly to the Court at: OTPLegalAdvisorySection@icc-cpi.int. The deadline for submitting comments is 23 February 2014.

As the feedback phase is relatively short, the Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice is sharing the draft policy with a range of interested networks to ensure as many people as possible are informed of the draft and have the opportunity to provide the OTP with your comments, should you wish to do so.

The OTP intends to launch the final version of the policy in March 2014.
