WOMEN - CRISES - CONFLICT & WAR
- NATURAL DISASTERS - TRAUMA & VICTIMIZATION - MEMORIES & SUFFERING
LINGER
WUNRN posts this photo of women in
Srebrenica, Bosnia-Herzegovina LEST WE FORGET. These women, now older,
carry the permanent mental and physical scars from the rape, the massacre, the
genocide.
Yet, the media and attention, and
support have moved on. Today, we see headlines and "breaking
news" of many parts of the world in conflict, reeling from disasters, and
resulting in women's and children's displacement, increased poverty, challenges
to rights and basic social needs as food, water and sanitation, and health
care. Has the world forgotten the women of Srebrenica in Bosnia, the earthquake
victim women in Pakistan, the shocking number of women displaced by the
internal conflict in Colombia, the victims of femicide in Guatemala, the women
trying to rebuild their lives after Hurricane Sandy in the US, the women and
girls who survived the tsunami in Asia only to be victimized further as by
trafficking.
Missing
Relatives. Women pray together at a memorial in honour of their missing
relatives, Srebrenica, Bosnia.
