to 95.8 percent of Chinese women polled agree that being thin is not the
defining standard of physical beauty and that a well-proportioned body is
better, according to a newly released report on urban women's body image and
health.

The survey aimed to learn more about how modern Chinese women perceive the
issue of body image and health in order to provide guidance on the matter.
About 75.4 percent of the women fell between the ages of 30 and 45.
The survey shows that almost all the women said that a woman's beauty is not
just in physical appearances but also in health and attitude. Over 70 percent
are very concerned about their appearance and nearly 90 percent agreed that a
healthy lifestyle is the way to physical and psychological health.
Up to 86.5 percent said that women need to start taking care of their bodies at
the age of 24 and 85.6 percent said women should lose weight if they put on too
much weight during pregnancy.
Over 80 percent said that they believe women who are in better physical shape
are more popular in the workplace and are better at socializing, relationships
and marriage. Over half the women believe improving one's appearance can
increase confidence and is helpful in career and relationships.
Among those polled, 35 percent of them were satisfied with their bodies, 22.2
percent were dissatisfied and 5.2 percent said they were very dissatisfied.
The survey also revealed that the top three problems in women's body concepts
are a mistaken belief that healthy weight management means losing weight, not
knowing their own measurements and being skeptical of products that may help
them.
