Hoda Badran Rejects the Findings of the

Thomson Reuters Foundation

on the Situation of Women in Egypt

Cairo 14 November, EFUNION:  Leader of Egypt’s Feminist Union (EFUNION) Dr. Hoda Badran rejected Thursday the results and findings of the Thomson Reuters Foundation study revealed Wednesday and which says that ”the fallout from the political upheaval in Egypt has made it the worst country in the Arab world to be a woman, according to research published exclusively in The Independent.”.

The Leader of Egypt’s Feminist Union also rejected the figures published of cases of sexual assault noting  that the study did not reveal its sources for those figures which were specifically targeting cases that occurred on 3 July.

Dr. Badran questioned the methodology of the study that used more than 300 gender experts in the 21 Arab League states and Syria rated the countries according to different issues affecting women, including politics, reproductive rights and gender violence.

Badran questioned the criteria of choice for those 300 gender experts and the questions that were posed to receive such blatant inaccurate information.

However, Badran, noted that the 2 percent figure of women representation in the parliament of 2012 is a correct figure and is a an alert to the drafting committee of the constitution to draft representation rights for women that are just so that Egypt can be spared and protected from foreign criticism.
