Teen relationships are often controversial and severely misunderstood. In some cases these relationships can escalate into what is commonly known as domestic violence or intimate partner violence (IPV). The more tragic of these cases sometime lead to murder . As was the case for 16-year old Anna Lynn Hurd. This book, “I Trusted Him : The True Story of Anna Lynn Hurd,” methodically documents the months and days leading up to her gruesome murder, a murder that no one in the small town of Northern St. Paul, Minnesota US could have seen coming, or could they?

All the warning signs were there. All the early signs were there. Attempts to control her disguised by his pleas to spend every waking second with her.  Forbidding her to go to the bathroom by herself out of fear that she might be texting someone else unfortunately went unnoticed.  Many admitted in witnessing these jealous outbursts were often brushed off as normal teenage behaviour. Honest attempts in believing the best for both Anna Lynn and her boyfriend created the perfect recipe for a tragic ending which would eventually cost Anna Lyn Hurd her life.

Written by Jennifer Smith (Anna Lynn Hurd's mother) and Cherry Tigris (an advocate for child abuse survivors). Readers will find themselves caught in the perfect storm of circumstances brought on by young teenage love gone wrong, and a society that refuses to hold anyone accountable for anything.
