CALL
FOR FILM SUBMISSIONS - WOMEN BOUGHT & SOLD: VOICES UNITED AGAINST VIOLENCE
WVN
Film Festival Theme: Women Bought and Sold: Voices United Against Violence.
In this Festival, we aim to portray a deeper understanding of the worldwide
issue of sexualized violence directed against women, but specifically focus on
the contributing factors to these global challenges in Muslim-majority
societies.
The
subjects addressed in Women Bought and Sold include: sex
trafficking, slavery, domestic servitude, forced marriage, and sexual
harassment. WVN hopes that the Festival will provide a virtual and actual
environment in which discussion among passionate activists, film directors,
decision makers, and critical minds will lead to creative solutions and
solidarity in the fight against these obstacles to peace, prosperity, and the
dignity of women.
Film
categories include Documentary, Fiction, Experimental, and Student films.
Film
Festival submissions are open and accepted until December 31, 2013. Late
submissions will be accepted until January 31, 2014.

All films selected for participation will be available to view online, and the festival will culminate with a live ceremony in Los Angeles in the spring of 2014, where the winners of each category will be awarded cash prizes totaling $30,000.
While the First WVN Film Festival, in 2011, had a more general theme of collecting women’s stories from around the Muslim world, this Second Film Festival, is striving to portray a deeper understanding of the worldwide issue of sexualized violence directed against women, specifically trafficking, slavery, domestic servitude, forced marriage, and sexual harassment, and to focus on the contributing factors to these global challenges in Muslim-majority societies.
WVN Executive Director Heidi Basch-Harod believes "Women Bought and Sold: Voice United Against Violence will meaningfully contribute to the women-led efforts to lift the curtain of shame that has traditionally silenced women in Muslim-majority societies, who are victims of sexualized violence."
