Cultural values are of great importance for all societies.GMP viewsculture as a resourcein
the development of community programs andbuilds
on positive cultural values and rolesto promotesustainable
change in communities.
Elders are respected In all non-Western societies for their experience
andthe support and guidance they provide to younger generations. Grandmothers
playa special role teaching and caring for children and women.GMP viewsgrandmothers as an
ignored resource and explicitly involves themas keyactors in
all development programs.
A growing gap between the generations in many cultures affects family
andcommunity well-being.GMP
promotes dialogue between generations andbetween men and womenin
all community programs in order to strengthenmutual respect, understanding and
social cohesion.
GMP uses participatory adult education methods, based on dialogue
andproblem-solving, tobuild
consensuson priority action to betaken by communities to
promote their own well-being and to bring aboutsustained change in communities.
Grandmother Project has a unique approach to working with communities to
improve the lives of children and women in these areas:

pregnancy
· Female genital
mutilation/cutting

childhood development
· Hygiene
· Education
· HIV/AIDS
The GMP - Grandmother Project -
approach can be adapted and integrated into the community programs of any
organization that addresses these issues. GMP develops community programs to
address all of these issues using an innovative Change through Culture approach.
