More than 1.9 million Syrians are hosted in the region, placing unprecedented strain on communities, infrastructure and services in host countries. Unfortunately, the projections in 2013 indicate a continued outpouring of refugees to neighboring countries with an uncertain timetable for return. Syrians are internally displaced from war and conflict, and flow as refugees into Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt and Iraq.

Women and children make up three-quarters of the refugee population.

Best Friends

This is what Nayla, Hayat and Maryam told me as they hurdled in front of the camera one beautiful summer afternoon in Saida, south Lebanon.

Refugee children in Lebanon continue to be the most vulnerable. Their new friendships are proof of the resilience refugees show in the most difficult of situations.

" I left all my toys in Syria. So my dad made this for me with a piece of wood , then I put some clothes on" 7 years old Noura said.
