ITALY - THREE ACID ATTACKS ON WOMEN
IN ONE MONTH
Vicenza, May 10, 2013 - A 31-year-old woman received hospital treatment on Friday after having acid thrown at her in the third such acid attack to take place in Italy in a month. The woman was attacked by two hooded men after opening the door of her home in the northern city of Vicenza. They made her lie down and one reportedly held her while the other poured a substance over her, according to initial reports. The woman suffered minor burns on one arm and her bottom.
Earlier this month a 32-year-old pregnant woman was attacked with hydrochloric acid while on her way to the hospital for a prenatal visit. A man on a scooter threw the highly corrosive acid into her face, missing her eyes, as she was entering the hospital for routine tests.
Three people have been arrested after a 35-year-old attorney's face was disfigured in an acid attack last month. Two Albanian men are suspected of carrying out the attack and the woman's ex-boyfriend is accused of ordering it.

ITALY
- WOMAN ATTORNEY VICTIM OF DISFIGURING ACID ATTACK
Pesaro,
April 17, 2013 - The paramilitary Carabinieri police in the eastern
Italian coastal town of Pesaro are working on a well-defined lead to catch the
man who threw a container of acid in the face of a 35-year-old woman lawyer
Tuesday night.
The victim,
Lucia Annibali, has a law practice in the historic inland town of Urbino, but
her home is in Pesaro, 45 minutes away on the Adriatic coast. The aggressor lay
in wait inside her home in Pesaro Tuesday evening, and ambushed her when she
set foot inside. The lawyer, despite the excruciating pain of the substance -
believed to be sulfuric acid - flowing down her skin, managed to call for help
and give the police promising leads for the investigation. Police let slip that
"there is an affair" behind the story, but would not specify the
context. It is not believed a vendetta for ending a relationship. Investigators
would not comment on whether the aggressor was a client. Police took
individuals for questioning on Wednesday, but so far there are no arrests.
