MensWork: Eliminating Violence Against Women, inc. was formed in 2008 by a small collective of US men who wanted to create more ways for more men to be more actively and proactively involved in ending men’s violence against women.

SHINING A LIGHT - INTERNATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST - WORKING TOGETHER TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

MensWork, in partnership with the Muhammad Ali Center http://www.alicenter.org/, is thrilled to announce “Shining a Light:  Working Together to End Violence Against Women.”

“Shining a Light” has multiple aspects:

The first is an international photo exhibit depicting the impact of violence against women, actions to prevent violence against women, and solutions or actions of men’s efforts to prevent violence against women.   We will be hosting this exhibit at the Muhammad Ali Center Nov 23, 2013 – Jan 5, 2014.  The link for the Call for Submissions-Exhibits, released on March 15, 2013, is below.

We are seeking photo depictions from around the world.

Exhibit Submission Forms:

Shining a Light-Call for Submissions - Includes Prizes

Shining a Light-Model Release Form

Shining a Light-Parental Consent Form

Shining a Light-Submission Form

For more information about the submission process, please go directly to www.alicenter.org

All submissions should be sent directly to the Muhammad Ali Center – www.alicenter.org

The exhibit itself, which will be unique, will challenge those who see it to make a commitment to working to end violence against women, and ask them to choose specific actions they can take in their own lives.

Once the physical exhibit is finished here, we will be making it available to other communities, museums, universities and organizations to use in their locales to encourage more efforts to make change to prevent violence against women.

Communities or organizations that do not have the capacity for the physical exhibit, will have access to a digital version.

The second aspect of this initiative and in conjunction with the exhibit, MensWork and the Muhammad Ali Center will be creating several arts-based social change curricula (Middle-School, High School, College/adult, and a train-the trainer).  These curricula will help deepen the understanding of the exhibit and the “story” we’re telling and urge student to organize to take action to end violence against women — ideally using some form of arts to do so.

Whatever art expressions that these groups create can the uploaded back to the “Shining a Light” webpage at the Muhammad Ali Center.

These curricula will be available to communities to use as a part of the exhibit.

The third aspect of Shining a Light is an international conference on Dec 6 and 7th 2013 highlighting efforts to “work together to end violence against women.”  Look for more information soon bout the conference and a call for workshop proposals.
