According to the survey, 41 percent of women had suffered from violence
which was mostly committed by partners and family members. Statistics showed that
60 percent of domestic victims didn’t ask for help, which showed there was not
a good social environment in Taiwan.
Most of victims of violence didn’t ask for help because they either held
traditional concepts that domestic shame should not be made public, didn’t know
effective ways to ask for help or were afraid of revenge.
The survey collected 568 valid questionnaires from January 10 to January 14,
2013.
The foundation pointed out domestic violence was a severe problem in Taiwan
and that greater efforts should be made to eliminate it.
