INVESTIGATING RAPE AT THE INTERNATIONAL
CRIMINAL COURT: THE IMPACT OF TRAUMA

article focuses on the impact of trauma on the ability of survivors of
sexual violence to recall and articulate narratives of their experiences, and
the impact of this on investigation and testimony at the International Criminal
Court. The article is the text of a presentation given at The Hague on the eve
of the Lubanga judgment, and is published in "Issues in International
Criminal Justice".

*Ellie Smith is a PhD candidate at
the University of Bournemouth, and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Centre on
Human Rights in Conflict, University of East London. She holds an undergraduate
degree in law from the University of Cambridge and an LLM from the London
School of Economics. She is an international human rights lawyer with
substantive experience in interdisciplinary (legal/clinical) work with
survivors of torture and organised violence.
