*Malnutrition is found in both developed and developing countries. Malnutrition takes an uneven toll on poor women and their children, leading directly or indirectly to an estimated 30% of all child deaths.

 

*Vulnerable women are at greater risk of malnutrition than men, and more girls die of malnutrition than boys.

 

*In many societies, men and boys are given priority when meals are served. This can contribute to undernutrition in women and girls.

 

*Malnutrition in mothers, especially those who are pregnant or beastfeeding, can set up a cycle of deprivation that increases the likelihood of low birth weight, child mortality, serious disease, poor classroom performance.....

BANGKOK (AlertNet) – Countries with the highest numbers of malnourished children urgently need to step up the way they respond to the problem in order to prevent millions of unnecessary deaths, according to a joint report produced by charities Save the Children and World Vision.The “Nutrition Barometer”, which provides a snapshot of national governments’ commitments to addressing children’s nutrition, found that of 36 countries, where 90 percent of the world’s malnourished children live, almost a quarter have shown little progress in tackling the crisis......
