Bangladesh - Gender & Women's Rights

The programme on Gender under the social policy unit of Unnayan Onneshan undertakes research on all aspects of gender issues, specifically focuses on concerns pertaining to women workers’ rights, sexual harassment of women, and representation of women in society.

UO undertakes research for improving women workers' rights in traditional sector, service sector, formal and informal sectors. Furthermore, UO focuses on reducing women sexual harassment at home and outside. Moreover, UO advocates for changing the mode of representation of women that postulates a degrading position of women in the society. Through its research programmes would try to way out existing inequalities between men and women in the society and try to find out possible solutions to give women their due respect and rights. Moreover, advocacy for institutional responses would promote policy reformulation to ensure adequate and appropriate provision for the women.

The objective of the organization is to create broad awareness among the civil society on current social issues. Through disseminating its research works and organizing events, the organisation put ideas directly to decision-makers at national and international levels. It has cultivated connections with public sector officials, politicians, business leaders, NGOs, trade unions, women groups, educators for building active support for ensuring social justice and equity across the society
