THE DOCUMENTS OF THE UN COMMITTEE ON
THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD HAVE MULTIPLE IMPORTANT DIMENSIONS FOR GIRLS.
Examples from Concluding
Observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child for ALGERIA:
29. .....The Committee expresses
concern at the persistence of legal provisions that discriminate against girls
and women such as those related to inheritance contained in the 2005 Family
Code. The Committee is also concerned that limited measures have been taken by
the State party to change societal discriminatory and patriarchal attitudes and
behaviors as well as stereotyping of gender roles. The Committee further
reiterates its concern at the persistent de facto discrimination faced by
children with disabilities, children living in poverty, children born out of
wedlock, working children, children in conflict with the law, street children,
children living in rural areas, and Western Saharan refugee children.
