Inequalities in Pay - Study
The gender pay gap and factors that have an impact on it
are among the most researched topics in the field of social studies today. The
factors that contribute to the existence of gender-based inequalities in pay
are primarily related to gender-based discrimination in the labour market, as
well as age, seniority at work, hourly rate of pay, level of education, and
remuneration and promotion structures in place, which in some cases contribute
to the widening of the gender pay gap.
By conducting on-the-ground investigation and observation,
this study seeks to provide a gender-sensitive approach to the determining
factors that lead to gender-based inequalities in pay in Albania, thus making a
first step in providing a general picture of the situation, which until now had
been lacking in the research literature dedicated to this question.
The main research question posed is: Are women paid less
than men in Albania?
The present study provides new information and data about
the gender pay gaps in Albania. The presentation of data by means of tables and
charts helps create a clearer picture of the present situation and informs the conclusions
and recommendations for future gender policies that would effectively address
the problem and contribute to the closing of the gender pay gap in the country.
