Stop Stoning & Execution Conference Resolution

Speakers raised their concern about gross violations of women’s rights under Islamic Sharia Law and the politicization of religion. They explained that the immense sufferings women face are not limited to one country or a particular culture although they do differ from one place to another, in different contexts.

Murdering women through stoning and execution is sanctioned by all states and governments are responsible for creating cultures that make women’s life enjoyable. However, in many countries violence has become a routine which the society tolerates.

The conference also emphasized how women are agents of change and leadership in social and political movements. Today, in countries where Sharia is practiced, such as Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia, women who attempt to rebel and own their bodies and sexualities are stoned to death. Similarly, those women who articulate their agency in national freedom struggles are subjected to execution.

The conference ended wit a collective resolution to:

1. Raise awareness about these crimes and to encourage and support struggles against them in Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere where states legitimizes women’s slaughter.

2. Work in partnership with other campaigns that bring awareness about stoning and execution of women.

3. Continue efforts for femicide to be recognized as crime against humanity like genocide is in international Law and to form an alternative women judicial system against femicide.

4. Denounce these crimes and to mobilise our societies to take stands against these medieval practises.

5. Raise awareness among men and to help them to involve in the struggle for women’s equality and freedom.

6. Reform laws and to create new legislations against all forms of violence and to establish Constitutions that recognise full equality between men and women.

7. Highlight Kurdish women’s struggles and oppose all forms of violence against them.
