[Brussels,
12 January 2012] This spring, the European Women’s Lobby will organise a pilot
phase for an exchange project with women’s organisations from the Mediterranean
region. This project follows from the EWL members’ willingness to support
women’s organisation in the democratisation process in Arab countries, and it
will be supported by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.
The objective of this project is
to facilitate the first exchange between women’s organisations from (South)
Eastern European countries, which have been involved in democratic transition
in the last decade, and women’s organizations and groups active in the recent
elections in Tunisia.
The exchange of experiences and strategies will allow to identify priority
issues, strategies and activities that can help to ensure a better participation
of women in democratic transition processes.
An exchange meeting will take
place in the end of March in Brussels.
It will gather around 18 women who have been active in including women in
democratic processes and transition - representatives of women’s organisations,
women’s rights defenders, journalists - from (South/eastern) Europe and Tunisia.
EWL members already in contact with women’s organisations in Tunisia
and/or in the Euromed process will participate in the meeting.
