Azerbaijan - State Women, Family & Children Committee Creates Data Bank on Persons Who Committed Domestic Violence

Baku, Fineko/abc.az. The State Committee for Family, Women & Children of Azerbaijan has started solving organizational issues on creation of a database of persons who committed domestic violence.

The Committee reports that a data bank on persons who committed domestic violence is being created on the basis of the rules of preventive registration of perpetrators of such violence, approved by the country’s government, and conducting educational and preventive work.

"The purpose of the data bank project is to identify the exact statistics of domestic violence cases of criminal and non-criminal nature, collection of information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Social Rehabilitation Centers to which the domestic violence victim persons can apply without going to the police, judiciary agencies and from other sources. This will allow us to analyze the real situation in this sphere in order to determine how to prevent domestic violence, creation of normal relations in families, eliminate various consequences of domestic violence," the Committee’s source said.

As part of the data bank the Committee plans to buy appropriate software.

"Work on creation of a data bank may be launched earlier next year. It is difficult to define now how soon it is created. Currently, we are gathering information on this project," the Committee reported.

Under the rules of preventive accounting of domestic violence perpetrators, educational and preventive work with them will be conducted by psychologists, teachers and other professionals. The rules do not cover prisoners and juveniles in special educational, medical and rehabilitation facilities of open and close type.
