CAMPAIGN AGAINST SEXIST ADVERTISING

It is with great
pleasure we share with you our Success in campaigning for banning a Sexist
advertisement. “Last week, the advert below (of a local
stout beer) sparked a furor in Mozambique and managed to galvanize the women’s
movement (across the spectrum), to rally together against it. They claimed
successfully that this advert was insulting, discriminatory, sexist, and
against women’s dignity. After a press conference, a campaign against the
brewer (Cervejas de Mocambique) was launched. The brewer bowed to the pressure
and decided to unconditionally withdraw the advertisement. Fórum Mulher (Women
Forum) and the Mozambican Human Rights League led the protest.”
We know the fight does not end there. We have a long way
to go because this is assuredly not the only advert that uses women’s body
in a sexist way, nor is it the only form of violence against
