~ The National DELTA Collaborative

Special thanks to the National Center on Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCDSV), with whom NRCDV/VAWnet has a collaborative relationship to support the CDC Foundation's DELTA and DELTA PREP grantees in their work to prevent intimate partner violence. The NCDSV also maintains extensive lists of publications and links to DELTA Program-related resources. In addition, we'd like to recognize VAWnet's partner in prevention-focused resource provision and DELTA program support, PreventConnect.org, whose resources are highlighted below.

About CDC's DELTA Program

Nearly one decade after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) initiated the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancements and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) Program, there is a strong foundation of information and lessons learned regarding promising practices in the primary prevention of intimate partner violence. This collection highlights the successes of this program and its grantees, providing materials to support replication of these efforts across the United States and globally.

"Beginning in 2002, CDC provided cooperative agreements and other supports with Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) funding to develop the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancements and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) Program. Through DELTA, CDC supports 14 state-level domestic violence coalitions to build organizational capacity and state leadership for IPV primary prevention as well as provide prevention-focused training, technical assistance, and financial support to local coordinated community responses (CCRs). Local CCRs, in collaboration with their state coalition, then plan, implement, and conduct program improvement evaluations of their multi-level change strategies to prevent IPV, addressing the unique needs and culture of their communities" (CDC, 2011).

The DELTA program seeks to reduce the incidence of intimate partner violence by providing funding to support local CCR's adoption of primary prevention principles and practices. As illustrated in the diagram below, local nonprofit organizations serve as the fiscal agents through which resources are provided to local CCRs to accomplish this goal through increased cooperation and coordination among participating sectors.

The 14 states that receive DELTA funding are highlighted on the map below. For an overview of each state program, local projects, and contact information for each state coordinator, visit the CDC's Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) US maps.

Further detail about the DELTA Program is provided in the CDC publications listed here.

Familiarity with the following key resources will help establish a baseline understanding of the core principles and strategies used to approach the primary prevention of domestic violence within a public health framework.

DELTA State Resources

Each of the 14 state domestic violence coalitions supported by CDC to carry out the vision of the DELTA Program has demonstrated outcomes such as training, public awareness campaigns, and resource development.
