We stand in solidarity with all Turkish based women’s rights advocates and organizations whose work is central to addressing this violence and who today are mobilizing to draw attention to the growing injustice and violence faced by women and girls in Turkey. We join with them in protesting both the state’s failure to protect women’s fundamental right to life and the annulment of the State Ministry Responsible for Women and the Family.
AWID hopes to have the opportunity to show our solidarity with women’s rights struggles in Turkey and to meet with many of you in person when we convene with 2000 women’s rights activists from around the world in Istanbul in April 2012 for the 12th AWID International Forum on Transforming Economic Power to Advance Women’s Rights and Justice. We hope you will join us there.
Today we join with you in demanding immediate action by the Turkish government to address increasing violence against women and girls and in calling for solidarity by women’s rights advocates, organizations and movements around the world.
