and Vanuatu.

FIRST WOMAN DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL

FORUM SECRETARIAT- FIRST WOMAN DEPUTY SECRETARY GENERAL

June 2011] The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat this week welcomed its first
woman Deputy Secretary General.
“I
am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Andie Fong Toy as Deputy Secretary
General , Economic Governance & Security,” said Secretary General, Tuiloma
Neroni Slade.
“I
have much pleasure in congratulating and welcoming Ms Fong Toy as the first
woman to take up the position of Deputy Secretary General.
“The
wealth of experience Ms Fong Toy brings with her will be an asset to the
Secretariat, will strengthen team performance and leadership of the Economic
Governance and Security Programmes and, together with Deputy Secretary General
Feleti Teo, will assist me as Secretary General in providing leadership of the
organisation.”
Mr
Slade added that Ms Fong Toy’s extensive experience incorporates research on
Pacific legal issues and working in a civil society organisation in New Zealand
and experience in election observation missions, encapsulating vast knowledge
and understanding of regional and international issues.
Ms
Fong Toy served as Director for the Forum Secretariat’s Political Governance
and Security Programme until 2008. Prior to her appointment as Director she
also served the Secretariat as International Legal Adviser and Legal &
Political Officer.
Ms
Fong Toy holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Victoria University in New Zealand
and Masters in International Relations from Deakin University, Australia. She
replaces Mr Peter Forau who completed his term at the Secretariat in March this
year.
