SAUDI ARABIA - CHALLENGES FOR WOMEN
TO GET BUSINESS LOANS
Wafa Badawood - April 25, 2011
JEDDAH:
Turki Al-Sudairi, director of the Saudi Credit Bank in Riyadh, said the
difficulty women experience in getting permits from authorities prevents them
from getting loans for business purposes.
The problem comes on top of the limited opportunities for them to go into
business.
Al-Sudairi said there are several conditions for women to be able to get loans:
They must be Saudi citizens over 21 years old, working full time or are in
financing activities that deal with women and have acceptable guarantors before
they can get loans. He pointed out that the conditions for lending do not
differ from one region to another, but the demographic distribution for each
project and the region’s need for such projects is assessed.
