Collective Call for UN Women to Design Its Policy & Program on Women's Economic, Social & Cultural Rights Perspective

ESCR-Net's Women and ESCR group has endorsed a collective statement to UN Women titled "Call for UN Women to Design its Policy and Program on Women's Economic Empowerment from an Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Perspective". The other organizations which endorsed the collective statement include: CWGL, AWID, Urban Justice Center, Actionaid, Feminist Alliance for International Action, WIDE and GCAP - Feminst Task Force.

This is a critical phase for UN Women as it adopts its first strategic plan and inaugurates the first Board of Directors and Senior Leadership.  It is critical to ensure that women’s economic empowerment is not viewed as merely raising women’s participation in the formal economy, without considering how to ensure true fulfillment of economic, social and cultural rights and women’s substantive equality.
