Egyptian Center for Women's Rights Monitors the Referendum

In the framework of ECWR’s efforts for supporting and empowering women in the process of democratic transition in Egypt. In cooperation with the Egyptian Coalition for Civil Education and Women's Participation, ECWR is monitoring the Referendum Day that will be held on March 19, 2011.

 

Operations Room of Monitoring the Referendum day  has started its work with explaining the constitutional amendments and distributing flyers thereon all over Egypt.

The flyers are entitled "Go and Refuse … No for the Constitutional Amendments"

.The Monitory process is based on voluntary efforts by the Egyptian NGOs coalition; which is done within the activities of ECWR and the Coalition from a gender perspective. It introduces a perspective concerning monitoring of women's participation, their votes, their participation in the referendum's events and the positive and negative effects of the referendum process on women's participation. ECWR and the Coalition will monitor all phases of the referendum.

Phase of Voting:

It includes monitoring all stages of voting; starting form the very beginning of voting, voting operation, role of the supreme committee, facilitating the procedures to voters and monitoring women's participation and their effect on the process of democratic transition.

Phase of sorting votes and announcing the results:

This phase includes legal procedures of sorting and announcing the results.The operations room has started working to follow up referendum since beginning of the week on Saturday March 12, till the announcement of referendum results.
