Human trafficking is a
multi-billion industry that is worth an estimated US$32 billion each year.
Human trafficking is also an atrocious crime with many faces: sexually
exploited girls growing up in brothels or fishing boys trapped in forced
labour. Not
My Life is a film that goes around the five
continents to unveil the many faces of trafficking and tell their haunting
stories.
The
feature-length documentary film Not My Life , directed written and produced
by Robert Billheimer, premiered in
Robert Billheimer, nominated for an Oscar for the documentary A Cry of Reason, began the production of Not My Life in 2007. Throughout his work, he captured the dangerous and horrifying practices that affect millions of children, women, and men in every part of the world. "It is impossible to spend four years among the victims and survivors of these crimes-- virtually all of them children-- and emerge with anything other than a sense of sheer and utter horror," said Billheimer about his latest film.
Not My
Life was conceived by Billheimer as a cautionary tale about slavery and
trafficking, and the corrupt or complacent systems in which they thrive and
operate. Narrated by Ashley Judd, the documentary aims to be a tool to raise
awareness about human trafficking, a tool that will help to educate and to
inspire the public to join the global movement to end this hideous crime.
