KUWAIT - WOMEN'S AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
PRAISES
GOVERNMENT FOR LAWS ON WOMEN'S
ISSUES
Chair of Women's Affairs Committee Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad
Al-Salem Al-Sabah hailed Thursday the government and National Assembly on their
keenness and care to women issues, including the recently passed laws that
granted women more rights. The Kuwait Women's Affairs Committee is a Division
of the Council of Ministers.
She termed the laws as "enhancement" to women's status and
productivity in society.
In response to reforms on women housing rights, which were passed by the
legislative branch in the last couple days, Sheikha Latifa said, in a press
release, that such step was a "positive" one.
The reforms tackled issues concerning housing care laws,
providing housing for Kuwaiti women who are married to non-Kuwaitis, including
divorced or has passed the age of 40.
Sheikha Latifa praised the Legislative Committee in the National Assembly on
the proposal to amend the Social Insurance Act in granting married women the
right to retire after serving 10 years, and in case her husband died, which
helps women pay attention to the children.
"Such compassionate reforms would bolster stability in society and help
protect Kuwaiti women and children," Sheikha Latifa added.
