United Nations Elects Executive Board of UN Women
UN Member States today took the next
step in enabling the newly-created United Nations agency on gender equality
and women’s empowerment to begin its work by electing countries to serve on

Inter-American Court of Human Rights Awards Damages to
Indigenous Rape Victims
The Inter-American Court of Human
Rights issued separate rulings in favor of two indigenous Tlapanec women who
were raped by military soldiers in 2002, after an eight year legal struggle

· The Australian Law
Reform Commission and the New South Wales Law Reform Commission released a
report recommending legal reforms that would improve the safety of women and
children who are victims of family violence. (More

· The Brunei Penal
Code has previously prevented police from taking action in cases where women
report rape by their spouse, as Section 375 of this code states that sexual intercourse
